PLC with Multiple Analog Inputs

PLC WITH MULTIPLE ANALOG INPUTS
4 October 2024

There are many different PLCs available, and in most cases, plant operators like to stick to one brand or type in particular. However, occasionally an application will arise where the existing PLC is probably not the best control solution available.

One such scenario is applications where the PLC is required to handle multiple analogue inputs.

For these applications, a Eurotherm E+PLC could be the ideal solution.

Eurotherm’s strength with process control is that their standard CPU’s have enough grunt to handle many analogue inputs.

The feedback we have received from customers indicates that there is a cost advantage. This is because introducing analogue capability on most standard PLCs can be expensive. Eurotherm in many cases is a more cost-effective option.

Programming the plc

Of course, one thing that may put you off moving to a different brand of PLC is learning a whole new programming environment.

This may not be necessary with the Eurotherm E+PLC as it utilises the 3rd party programming environment CODESYS, which is provided free with the hardware.

More and more PLC manufacturers are boosting their development time by putting this component of the PLC system in the hands of the CODESYS specialist developers.

Therefore, more and more engineers are becoming familiar with it.

The fact that the Eurotherm E+PLC is IEC 61131 compliant also makes the learning curve required to switch from other brands of PLC minimal.

Other manufacturers using CODESYS include Eaton XC/XV, Wago, Beckhoff, ABB, Cutler Hammer, and Wiedmuller, to name a few.
