Harting’s locking systems for hoods and housings protect unintentional disconnection, and reinforce the tightness of connection.

These systems are essential for secure and reliable connections in electronic applications, particularly those exposed to harsh conditions.

The most commonly used locking mechanism for industrial connectors are the levers. However, there are other available types suitable for special applications as listed below.

Choosing the right locking type depends on factors like environment, application, and ease of use.

Common Harting Locking Types

Screw - Screw locking system is well known in securing plug connections, where the built-in threads are bound together in the matching components with screws on each side.

Spring – Spring latch is mainly used on metal housings. This type consists of two components – spring element and a latching lug. The connector would have the spring clip on both sides, while the device being connected would have two matching latches. The spring clips hook behind the latching lugs to secure connection, and provide protection against shock and vibration.

PushPull – As the name implies, this is the easiest and fastest way to safely connect devices – just push the two components together to lock, and pull to unlock. A typical “click” sound gives an indication that connection is secure.

Lever Locking – Lever is normally used for heavy industrial connectors because they offer balance of security (high locking force), intuitive, durable and requires minimal space. The lever locking system is also easy to operate, with no tools required, and can either come in solo or in pairs. This type is available in various designs and comes in metal or plastic.

Bayonet Locking – Bayonet locking is primarily used for circular connectors. The locking element is rotated 90 degrees after connecting the components, and get locked into place. These are also available in various connector sizes.
