What is a Pulsar Control Box?

Both Pulsar Ultra 4 and Ultra 5 devices are control boxes used for measuring and controlling levels, flow rates, volumes, and pumps.

The Ultra 4 is a fully functional advanced controller for level, flow, volume, and pump control. It is UK-Monitoring Certification Scheme (MCERTS) Class 1 certified, and offers open channel flow measurement for stormwater overflows, and event duration monitoring.

The Ultra 5, on the other hand, can do all the functions of Ultra 4, with an added feature for differential level measurement capability using two transducers and alarm systems. Ultra 5 is applicable for level measurements of solids and liquids, for a variety of industries including pharmaceutical, chemical, power generation, water and wastewater, quarrying and mining, and many more.

The Ultra 4 has a multifunctional display that allows the user to view trend graphs on-screen and see how levels have changed over time. When combined with the Pulsar dB3 with double sun shields, the Ultra 4 achieves MCERTS Class 1 certification, with 0.193% combined accuracy.

The Ultra 4 includes built-in volume calculations based on standard tank shapes, and modern pump control functions. It can be programmed either via the built-in keypad (comes as standard on all wall-mounted and fascia-mounted units), via the SD card slot, or by PC via the RJ11 Serial Interface.

The Ultra 4 also includes Profibus digital communication options, and the onboard Micro SD card allows for extended data logging.

The Ultra 5 control unit provides five assignable relays with pump control configuration, and extra-alarm options for pump efficiency.

The unit offers pre-programmed tank shape conversions for a wide variety of standard tank shapes, including cylindrical, rectangular, cone base, pyramid base, sloped base, horizontal including parabolic ended tanks, and spherical.

The open channel flow mode also enables the unit to provide non-contact, maintenance-free, flow measurement and control in a wide range of flumes and weirs.
