How Truck Scales Allow You to Measure Cargo and Balance Axle Loads Accurately
Here in Australia, land transportation accounts for over 80% of shipment – with railways transporting most of the bulk goods.
Along with infrastructure limitations and strict regulations, you also need to assess the carrier’s height and width, and most importantly, the maximum weight capacity to ensure the truck’s/container’s clearance and safety.
Simplifying this endeavor requires a reliable and accurate truck scale, such as the Curiotec NDSB series.
What is a Truck Scale?
Load cells are significant components behind all truck scales, and enable truck scales to do their job reliably and accurately. A load cell is a device that converts force – such as pressure, tension or torque – into electrical signals. They are considered transducers as they change one form of energy into another.
Truck scale, sometimes referred to as a weighbridge or railroad scale (multiple scales set onto a platform), is something like a bathroom scale, but is designed to weigh empty freight vehicle and the load that it carries for transportation.
Applications of NDSB Truck Scales
NDSB Series Truck scales can be used to measure weights of trucks and their contents, freight containers, as well as cargos with heavy material loads like sand, gravel, and other construction materials, and more.
The measurements taken from the scale help monitor axle loads to ensure that the vehicle is balanced throughout its transportation journey. They also provide a guide to dynamic weights that gives allowances for cargo/container movements while in motion, such as suspended roads, overhang on curves and lateral movements in rail tracks.
NDSB truck scales can be used in various industries where precise measurement is essential, such as construction, mining, manufacturing, logistics, farming, and more.
Features of the NDSB Series Truck Scale Load Cells
NDSB series truck scale load cell has two versions, both come with International Organisation of Legal Metrology (OIML) certification – which facilitates international trade through providing standards for measuring devices.
This certification guarantees compatibility with other OIML-certified devices, which ensures uniform and true measurements.
