E Power PLM - Cost Savings with Operational Efficiency
The Eurotherm E Power is an advanced Thyristor (SCR) designed to control system power load management within high-powered applications, such as electrified furnaces and heating applications.
The E Power features a control module (Driver) capable of controlling multiple power stacks in a PLC-styled layout. Eurotherm's E Power can create a highly intelligent power control system, enabling users to employ Eurotherm's Predictive Load Management strategy. PLM can significantly reduce the risk of spikes and brownouts on electrified high-temperature heating applications. When used at scale, E Power managed systems give way to creating savings for a site's power consumption.
Eurotherm is a global leader in designing products for power & temperature control and encrypted data logging tools. Learn more about Eurotherm here.

Catalytic Cracking: high power, high temperature and highly expensive
For example, an electrical engineer can deploy a set of E Power controllers to a catalytic cracking unit within a petroleum refinery plant. The catalytic cracking unit involves an electrical heating process that creates extremely high pressure to "crack" hydrocarbon's long-chain molecules, producing various fuel byproducts, such as jet fuel, diesel, and petroleum.
Catalytic cracking requires vast amounts of electricity to create the system's precise heating zone and pressure. In some instances, processing plants will need to divert power from non-essential sections of the plant. If improperly managed, the site can risk straining the system with overdraw, creating brownout failures and, in some instances, blackout failure. Failures of this nature can be expensive operationally and cause downtime in productivity and additional repair expenses.

Eurotherm E Power controllers can be deployed to safely manage power distribution amongst the system to address this risk. The E Power system is intuitive, analysing and predicting when and how to manage power for the catalytic cracking unit, reducing the risk of power spikes and brownouts. The Predictive Load Management system comprises two onboard strategies: load balancing and load shedding.
Load Balancing will distribute the different power loads equally to achieve as stable and balanced power consumption as possible. The alternative strategy, Load shedding, allows for limiting and shifting overall energy consumption altogether or with fully adjustable user-defined priorities.
SAVE ON OPERATIONAL EXPENSES
By deploying the Eurotherm E Power control units, processes can benefit from greater power efficiency, saving potentially thousands per year from operational expenses and minimising power tariffs and excessive rates.
