Accelerometers and Vibration Monitors
9 January 2025

Monitran accelerometers are precision instruments designed for vibration measurement and analysis in industrial applications. They can help determine an object's tilt angle by assessing gravitational acceleration, as well as track how quickly an object is changing its speed.

Since they're user-friendly and work well across different frequencies, accelerometers are commonly used to monitor a diverse array of machinery, such as motors, pumps, fans, compressors, turbines, and many other rotating machines. They provide precise data that’s essential for monitoring machinery performance and for predictive maintenance.

General purpose analysis

Monitran offers two main series of accelerometers for general purpose analysis: MTN/1100 range and the newer MTN/2200 range, which provides enhanced performance for more demanding applications. The MTN/2200 series features improved electronics that offer:

  • Increased shock resistance, eliminating signal interruption during high shock loading episodes
  • Stable bias across the temperature range, preventing sensitivity changes at high temperatures

These accelerometers are used in various industrial settings, including data collection systems, heavy industry machinery and paper manufacturing equipment.

General purpose monitoring

Monitran General Purpose Monitoring Sensors are designed to work with PLCs and industrial controllers, providing continuous output of vibration through a 4-20mA signal. These sensors function as precise diagnostic tools for tracking machinery performance and detecting potential mechanical issues before they escalate.

Two main series are available:

  • The established 1185 and 1187 ranges, known for their reliability and long-standing performance
  • The newer 2285 and 2287 ranges, which offer enhanced capabilities for more demanding applications

Special purpose

Monitran Special Purpose Sensors are advanced vibration measurement devices designed to tackle unique and challenging industrial applications. These sensors expand the capabilities of standard vibration analysis and monitoring by incorporating modified designs and specialised features.

  • Enhanced temperature range: Can operate at significantly elevated temperatures, allowing for vibration monitoring in high-heat environments.
  • Low-frequency sensitivity: Optimised to detect and measure vibrations at lower frequencies than standard models.
  • Multi-parameter measurement: Can simultaneously measure different vibration parameters or combine vibration and temperature measurements in a single device.
